York Street Housing has just received an award in the ‘Housing’ category of the Opus Architecture and Construction Awards 2009. The judges’ citation read:
‘Without a site visit this project would have registered primarily as a sustainability focused scheme. But there is more than one string to this project’s bow. It works on many different levels, simultaneously from urban design to quality apartment design including a hidden green courtyard oasis. This is architecture as a response and not just a statement. A socially responsive architecture of conscious and confident achievement.’
Our social housing project at Enniskerry received a commendation in the same category. The citation read:
‘This local authority housing scheme is a thoughtful exploration of clustered buildings around informal courtyards. It gives a sense of place dedicated to people rather than cars. There are no windswept open spaces lacking definition rather only quality design throughout the whole scheme.’
