Preliminary Design Stage
Garvoge Bridge is a new road bridge proposed to cross the Garvoge River at the east of Sligo town where the river widens into Lough Gill. The bridge marks the end of the river and town, and the start of the Lough and countryside beyond. The bridge becomes an opportunity for an important symbolic gateway to mark this threshold.
The bridge has been designed to provide appropriate scale and status at this important threshold. The generous parabolic arch to the bridge has been designed to frame views towards the east. The Lough sits in the foreground, with Keelogyboy Mountain and the hills and wild landscape beyond. The new bridge will act as an object of visual significance in this rich landscape setting and encourage growth and regeneration in the east of Sligo town.
