Client: Malahide Parish Council
Planning
Following our success in an invited design competition in 2007, we were commissioned by Malahide Parish Council to design a new Parish Pastoral Centre, in the grounds of St. Sylvester’s Church in Malahide.
The brief was to provide a number of new meeting spaces for a variety of secular parish activities, while maintaining and improving existing church facilities with the addition of a new sacristy, prayer chapel, priest’s residence and basement level carpark.
The main secular accommodation is sited around the edges of a cloister to the south of the existing church, with passive surveillance provided by the residence at the upper level. The new accommodation associated with the church has been located to the north and east of the site, where the prayer chapel benefits from a private garden.
The basement level carpark will ensure that parking is eliminated to the front of the church, which will allow a new welcoming, pedestrian friendly, south facing public plaza and gardens.
