Competition entry
This project was part of a joint competition entry (with Metropolitan Workshops and O’Mahony Pike Architects), for a large housing, community and commercial development at Oscar Traynor Road in north Dublin.
Our scheme includes several four-storey residential buildings that provide a strong ‘edge’ and a sense of place to the side of a new park, terraced streets behind and a “homezone”.
A distinct contrast is created from the formality of the four storey park blocks with their strong elevations facing the park, through the smaller scale three storey terraced housing to the informal layout of the homezone. Here the two storey detached and semi detached dwellings defer in scale to the existing housing adjacent and are juxtaposed informally along a pedestrian route where children can play and adults can meet neighbours in a safe, car controlled environment.
