Wexford Civic Offices

Client; Wexford County Council
Competition: September 2006

Our proposal was a new civic building focusing around a series of linked civic spaces, both internal and external.

Compositionally, there are three interconnected elements; council chamber, cloistered public courts and office wing. We proposed two entrances to the building, with the main entrance from the car park, complemented by a park-side entrance from the south. Both lead into the same public concourse where visitors are greeted by reception.

From here the ‘public’ desks for the County Council departments are immediately visible, The concourse looks out and links to the linear park on the west and, on the east side opens onto a sheltered civic court and the café. The building elements are composed to frame the wonderful views from the concourse over the Slaney estuary and beyond.
